Hello, world! I’m Xingzhi, a passionate newcomer to the world of keyboard design from China. This full-size keyboard, my debut creation, is a collaboration between me and my friend Qin, proudly brought to life by the Vertex team—known for their work on the ‘Angle’ keyboard you may already be familiar with.

Qin and I are both avid collectors of vintage keyboards, drawn to classics like those from IBM and Cherry. In the history of keyboards, the full-size layout has always been a staple. Iconic designs like the Cherry G80-3108, with its signature key on the top right, paved the way, inspiring similar creations from Apple and WYSE. This rich history served as the foundation for my first design.

Beyond honoring classic designs, I’ve always been deeply inspired by the idea of integrating Chinese aesthetics into keyboard design—something traditional yet understated. When thinking of how to embody this, calligraphy came to mind, particularly the Seal Script from China’s very first Qin Dynasty. This inspiration led to the creation of our debut design, featuring a unique signature badge we call ‘Seal.’ This badge allows users to personalize their keyboards with their name or a favorite Chinese character, much like an artist leaving their mark on a masterpiece.

Yes, it’s a long keyboard, reminiscent of the classic design most of us encounter when we first step into a workspace. Interestingly, in the custom keyboard community, full-size layouts aren’t a popular choice among creators.

Structure: Why top mount?

Stability and reliability are what matter most. In fact, these traits have dominated the custom keyboard hobby since its inception. Full-size keyboards are exceptionally sensitive to all variables—plate, PCB, switches, and keycaps. They reflect, respond to, and even amplify these subtle differences more directly, offering a more authentic typing experience.

Moreover, this layout reveals the true quality of the keyboard itself. Personally, rather than labeling it as a conservative design, I’d call it pure.

Thanks to one of Vertex’s ongoing innovations, we’ve introduced a PC cushion between the screws and the case to absorb vibrations during typing. You might wonder if this is necessary. Interestingly, Lolo (a quirky friend of ours) noticed subtle differences when swapping the PCB and plate of the MAJA keyboard from a PC case to an aluminum one. He found the PC configuration slightly better. To replicate and enhance that improvement, we incorporated this small PC cushion experiment, optimizing both typing feel and acoustics.

The result? It worked flawlessly.

Additionally, like many modern designs, we split the PCB and plate into separate sections for the main keyboard and the numpad. This layout allows for more versatility—you can even experiment with different switches in each section, tailoring the typing experience to your liking.

Weight:≈3.5-3.7kg (Fully built)

For a full-size keyboard, its weight might feel a bit on the lighter side, especially when compared to the Glare. (I’d bet Simon wouldn’t be too eager to embrace it!) However, if you’re looking for something suitable for light gym sessions, it gets the job done.

After three rounds of sampling, I decided not to minimize the front height completely. This final profile strikes a better balance between aesthetics and comfort.
