This set draws inspiration from a pre-pandemic excursion to Taiwan where the designers were enraptured by arguably its most widely recognised dessert, the Taiwanese Pineapple Cake (鳳梨酥 fèng lí sū; 王梨酥 ông lâi so). Fenglisu are delicate little treats with a crumbly pastry exterior that are filled with a sweet pineapple jam.
In the Hokkien dialect, ‘pineapple’ (鳳梨 ông-lâi) is a homophone for the phrase ‘prosperity come’ (旺來 ōng-lâi). As a symbol of good fortune and prosperity, the goal is to pay homage to this culinary icon in the form of a GMK keycap set.
